The CASA Movement
In 1977, concerned over making decisions about abused and neglected children without sufficient information, a Seattle judge conceived the idea of using trained volunteers to speak for the best interests of these children in court. So successful was this Seattle program, that soon judges across the country began using citizen advocates. In 1990, the United States Congress strongly encouraged the expansion of CASA with the passage of the Victims of Child Abuse Act. Today, more than 900 CASA programs are in operation with over 70,000 men and women serving as CASA volunteers!
Locally
CASA of Lonoke County opened it's doors in October 2000. We are a 501 (c) 3, non-profit organization and are governed by a board of directors.
Our Mission
The mission of CASA of Lonoke County, Inc. is to provide abused, neglected and dependent children a voice in the court process. Our mission is accomplished through community volunteers who are trained to advocate for the best interests of each child.
Affiliations
CASA of Lonoke County is a member of the National CASA Association and an active member of the Arkansas State CASA Association.
Funding
We are funded in part by an Arkansasa State CASA grant, fundraising and through corporate and independent tax-deductible donations.
